Lost Garden Festival 2008

Gwyl Gardd Goll

After the success of last year’s Gŵyl Gardd Goll, the organisers are proud to announce that the festival is to return to Parc Glynllifon for its second year. The event – translated as ‘The Lost Garden Festival’ – will once again give people of all ages a chance to enjoy contemporary music in the unique open-air atmosphere of the Country Park’s slate amphitheatre.

The afternoon event is already gaining cult status and critical acclaim. Last year almost 500 people attended what turned out to be a fantastic, alternative day out in the Caernarfon area.

An impressive line-up of bands has been booked by the two organisers, Dilwyn Llwyd and Gethin Evans, both prominent figures in the Welsh music scene. From the internationally-renowned Euros Childs to local favourites Derwyddon Dr Gonzo and from Band Deiniolen to acoustic Gwyneth Glyn, the event will have something for everyone in this area, and should also draw crowds from other parts of Wales.

Dilwyn Llwyd said: “When we started organising the festival last year I had a gut feeling that there was room for an alternative daytime event like Gŵyl Gardd Goll where there were no barriers in terms of age or musical taste. It gave me a real buzz to see so many people coming along on the day, staying all afternoon and chilling out to the vibe of it all. It really was a highlight of last summer for me and I can’t wait to repeat the success again this year.”

Gethin Evans, who works for Community Music Wals and runs the Ciwdod project said: “The amphitheatre at Glynllifon is a brilliant venue and is absolutely fantastic on a summer afternoon. There are plenty of evening events being held in the area for certain crowds, so we want to offer families and people of all ages a chance to experience some of the great musical talent we have in Wales at the moment. We hope people will make a day out of it.”

Dilwyn Llwyd continued: “We just want people to have a great, affordable afternoon – and we are very confident that they will. The music and venue will be fantastic and we look forward to welcoming everybody to Gŵyl Gardd Goll again this year.”

Parc Glynllifon

Parc Glynllifon is located on the Caernarfon – Pwllheli road (A499), approximately 5 miles from Caernarfon.

The Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre, which lies within the Parc on the banks of the river Llifon, was built during the 1980s as part of an exciting project to celebrate the work of two of Wales’ most famous playwrights – John Gwilym Jones and Saunders Lewis. The stage is located on the far side of the river on Yew Tree Island which is surrounded by Irish Yew trees dating back to the early 19th Century.
