Local Bands to be Created in Time for National Eisteddfod
Community Music Wales will be encouraging budding musicians to create new bands to perform in time for the national Eisteddfod in August.?
The ?Rockschool? series of workshops began on Wednesday 10th June at Theatre Harlech in Gwynedd.
?Two slots on stages on the main Eisteddfod site have already been especially booked for the bands to perform on, which means that they will be sharing a stage with some of the Welsh language scenes biggest names. The opportunity will provide a considerable launch pad for those wishing to pursue a career in the music industry. ?The performance at the Eisteddfod will be taking place between 11am and 12pm on 6th and 7th ?of August in Bala, Gwynedd.
?
The first band will be formed from musicians in the Harlech area. Musicians in the Tywyn area will also have the chance to form a band and take to the stage at the national event. The project was opened to musicians of any age and musical genre to in order to produce as diverse a range of Welsh music as possible, to be showcased at the national festival.
?
Welsh music scene veteran ?Tew Shady? aka Gronw Roberts, will be holding the sessions for Community Music Wales and he will be working closely with the emerging musicians in order to create original Welsh language material for the performance. The Welsh musician has a long history of working with the Wales wide charity. His 2005 released single was part of Community Music Wales? Welsh language musicians mentoring programme, Ciwdod and has recently completed the organisation?s accredited tutor training course for musicians teaching community groups.

Gethin Evans North Wales Project Officer for Community Music Wales said
?
??This is a fantastic opportunity for Wales? musicians to have a platform for their talents and with the expertise of Gronw Roberts to help shape and develop some great material for the Eisteddfod. By working in collaboration with the festival, we are hoping to broaden the audience and encourage people who perhaps might not normally get involved, to take part in one of the oldest cultural festivals in the world??
?The project is being run in conjunction with Mantel Gwynedd and the Welsh Language Board.
