CMW Unveils New Logo Designed with Local Students

Following several months of anticipation, CMW was delighted to launch its new logo before the press at the Atrium in Cardiff last month. The new design, created by a local student, has been slowly appearing on the charities publicity and website of late, but has now had its official release.

 The project to create the logo began at the Atrium, Cardiff’s School of Creative & Cultural Industries earlier in the year. Community Music Wales was invited along with two other local charities, to work with the college’s 1st year graphic design students.

 Students were asked to submit a project for a branding module as part of their degree programme, for which they would design a logo for one of the respective charities. Charlotte Little, CMW’s Programme Manager went to support and advise the 15 students who had selected to work on the CMW logo. Charlotte was able to draw upon her 10 years of experience working in marketing and design, meeting with the students on a weekly basis at the college.

 Following twelve weeks of scrupulous design, the students were ready to present their finished pieces. A final piece was chosen, designed by Adam Bee, from North Wales. Adam had chosen to design the logo for CMW, as he knew of the charity through some friends who had been mentored on Ciwdod, its welsh language project, for young musicians. 

Charlotte said

‘’I particularly liked Adam’s design as he joined two images - the plectrum and the digital sound display. He cleverly brought together traditional acoustic music and the digital display conveying sound in its modern computer programmed form. I felt that they depicted the breadth of CMW’s work, both in music and in the diversity of communities in which we work. ’’

 CMW hopes that this successful multi-arts project marks the start of a rewarding partnership with the Atrium. CMW would like to thank Adam and all the students who contributed to the project. As well as the logo, CMW will be launching a new look website and an organisation information pack for partners.
