Cultural Leadership International
During the last week of October the British Council ran a Cultural Leadership International (CLI) project in Istanbul. CMW Programme Manager, Charlotte Little was invited to work as a facilitator on the project.
Forty seven emerging cultural leaders had been selected from eighteen countries across the Middle East, South Africa, Central Asia and Europe to take part in the CLI 2011 programme. These ranged from musicians to film makers, designers to writers and arts curators.
The group met for the first time during a series of workshops hosted at the spectacular new SALT Galata Forum, housed in the former 19th century Imperial Ottoman Bank’s headquarters.
The project featured guest speakers daily, provoking lively debate and discussion among participants in the breakout sessions that followed. Charlotte worked to support participants in examining their personal leadership development through common challenges related to cultural policy, social justice and technological innovation.
Charlotte said; “With participants from so many different cultural backgrounds the debates were intense and exciting. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about other cultures and different art practices; I was delighted to be invited to work on such an innovative project.”
