Bethan Nia“It was a fantastic course from which I have developed new skills and confidence in working as a community music tutor in a variety of settings.”
Mentoring
In addition to running participatory activity with groups CMW also works with individuals through mentoring. We work with individuals who make music and want to further their music making as a career.
Participants are paired with a trained mentor who has experience of music industry at a professional level. The mentor works with them to establish a programme of activity specifically tailored to their individual needs and supports them over a period of time as they work through this.
This innovative outreach learning provision empowers individuals. It improves not only their music and technical skills, but also emotional intelligence, self-esteem, self-confidence and other transferable skills such as team- work, communication and learning skills through practical tasks and integrating activity within an essentially music based training programme. This will improve employability and help with the transition to employment.
CMW has run mentoring since 1999 and has in-house experience and expertise of working within the music industries. Some of the musicians we’ve helped have gone on to be in internationally recognised bands such as Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For a Friend, Akira the Don, Goldie Lookin Chain, Amy Wadge, Mclusky, Jarcrew and Future of the Left.
Due to the intensive nature of this work it requires significant funding, therefore we are unable to offer it openly at all times.
Currently we are running the scheme under Complete Control Music 14-19 as part of the Reach the Heights project. You can find further details here.
If you are from an organisation that is interested in us running this kind of activity for your client group you can commission us to work with you. Please contact us to discuss ways of tailoring the work to your group’s needs.
