Ciwdod
This project offers activity to encourage young people to create and enjoy contemporary Welsh language music and provides opportunities to get involved in its promotion.
Ciwdod is a long-term partnership between CMW and the Welsh Language Board which has run in a number of forms since 2004 dedicated to increasing involvement in Welsh language music making. In the past Ciwdod has provided recording opportunities for bands and artists in a variety of genres and supported them in their first releases. These have included Radio Luxembourg, Derwyddon Dr Gonzo, Plant Duw, and Yr Ods, to name a few.
The project now concentrates on grassroots support for those interested in Welsh language contemporary music through a variety of workshops and mentoring sessions. We also run workshops as part of a long standing partnership with the BBC on the annual Taith C2 school’s tour.
Ciwdod’s participatory workshops range from taster sessions to longer courses, and intensive one off workshops. These activities cover a variety of musical genres and are tailor made for the group we are working with. The project also runs music industry related workshops covering promotion, marketing, management, design etc. Participants develop skills through creative workshops exploring all aspects of music making and its promotion. All projects are run in Welsh.
CMW is committed to the Welsh language and all departments can, and do, work bilingually, the Ciwdod activity is in addition to this.
