Community Music Activity Pack
This pack was designed for organisations already using, or wishing to use music as an engagement tool.
CMW embarked on this initiative in 2009, in response to an increase in requests made to us for advice and guidance from community groups. We carried out consultation across Wales with organisations, community music practitioners, Local Authorities and advisors. The aim was to research the extent to which music is currently being used within local communities, what level of training the practitioners have received and what barriers exist preventing the use of community music.
Our findings demonstrated that there was little advice and guidance for community music practice, predominantly due to a lack of funding and resources. In response to this, using our twenty years of experience in running community music training, CMW developed this Community Music Activity Resource Pack to be used as a tool kit for community music delivery.
This Community Music Activity Resource Pack aims to help identify suitable music activity for organisations through presenting case studies of different activities and by looking at the practical steps needed in setting up and organising this work. There is also a Further Reading section signposting to other organisations for additional information such as: Child Protection, Health and Safety, and Musician’s Union.
