Kukunori Ry
….Tell us about the work you do, and the people you work with.
Kukunori Ry work with a wide range of target groups, from children and young people to seniors. The cornerstone of our work is to strengthen people's well-being, engagement, and resources through functional peer support. In practice, this means that people themselves act as peer tutors. The topics are selected based on the strengths and expertise of the peer tutors themselves. The groups can focus on music, performing arts, cooking, game development, or sports. The most important thing is for people to work together, learn from each other, and experience a sense of belonging.
How do you feel partnership work benefits your organisation, your participants and your projects?
CMW has provided us with new ideas and insights into topics such as organizing music workshops, operating at the organizational level, and various methods of facilitating peer-led activities.
What have you enjoyed most about collaborating with CMW?
We have particularly enjoyed CMW's open, bold, and visionary perspective on the future. In practice, this has led to a fruitful exchange of experiences, ideas, and best practices. This has benefited the target groups we work with in concrete terms and at the grassroots level.
Can you share a highlight or memorable moment/project from our work together?
The most memorable moments have definitely been the visits and opportunities to learn about CMW's activities. We have been greatly impressed by the professionalism of the staff, their innovative and open-minded approach to work, and the agility of the organization. We found the discussions and exchange of thoughts and ideas with the employees to be really important. We were also very impressed by the way the employees approach young people in challenging life situations and work with them in an encouraging and goal-oriented manner.
What is the most rewarding part of the work your organisation does?
We work with people who face mental health challenges and are in challenging life situations. The most rewarding thing is definitely seeing how people's functional capacity, self-efficacy, and self-confidence grow and how their social interaction skills develop. The best moments have been when we have seen a young person's starting point and been able to follow their journey towards studying, working life, or otherwise a good and meaningful life. Or when an withdrawn, shy, and nervous young person becomes more confident step by step and eventually leads the songwriting group. This is not only rewarding professionally, but it also gives us a sense of meaningfulness in our work.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future of your organisation, and the participants you work with?
We are currently in the middle of major changes in society, so our biggest dreams for the future are that policymakers will understand the importance of society being able to take care of its most vulnerable members. Every young person or adult who is left alone or lost is one too many. At the organizational level, our dreams are about making sure we can keep doing what we do in terms of funding (like all organizations). Our professional dreams are, of course, about being able to offer activities that are effective and genuinely benefit our target groups. Another aspect of this is that we would be able to be constantly innovative, stay one step ahead, and respond sensitively to changes and nuances in society.
Do you have a favourite piece of music that inspires your work?
I always listen to music while writing and doing office work. The music varies depending on the day and the mood. Recently I listened to Pink Floyd's live album Pulse! for the first time in a long time, which is actually excellent music for writing. If I had to choose a song that universally describes our work, it would probably be the evergreen Over the Rainbow. We all have dreams and without them, no one can survive. Whether it's work, hobbies, relationships, or the challenges we face in life.
If someone wanted to support or get involved with your organisation, what’s the best way?
The easiest way is to visit our website (kukunori.fi, rosotuotanto.fi, rosogames.fi/en/) or follow our social media channels, where you will find instructions on how to get started.
