Creating, recording, and performing music together
Over 16 weeks, we worked with a group of people with experience of mental health challenges, who came together to create, rehearse, and perform music as part of the Resonance: Peer-to-Peer Music Collective.
The Resonance Music Collective is part of Community Music Wales’ long-standing commitment to supporting individuals and organisations focused on mental health and the challenges it can bring. This peer-to-peer programme is delivered through our Kulture House initiative.

Creu, recordio a pherfformio cerddoriaeth gyda'n gilydd
Dros 16 wythnos, buom yn gweithio gyda grŵp o bobl â phrofiad o heriau iechyd meddwl, a ddaeth ynghyd i greu, ymarfer a pherfformio cerddoriaeth fel rhan o Resonance: Cyfuniad Cerddoriaeth Cyfoedion i Gyfoedion.
Mae'r Cyfuniad Cerddoriaeth Resonance yn rhan o ymrwymiad hirhoedlog Cerddoriaeth Gymunedol Cymru i gefnogi unigolion a sefydliadau sy'n canolbwyntio ar iechyd meddwl a'r heriau y gall eu hachosi. Cyflwynir y rhaglen gyfoedion i gyfoedion hon trwy ein menter Tŷ Kulture.

About the Project
In partnership with Ty Canna Outreach Services & funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and led by musician and experienced music tutor Jack Egglestone, the project combined guided workshops, studio time, and live performance opportunities. Participants worked collaboratively to:
Learn and rehearse material
Write and arrange new songs
Record their music in a professional studio setting
Alongside the group sessions, the project also offered one-to-one support giving one of the participants the space to write and record music that reflected their personal journey and experiences
Ownership and Collaboration
The aim of the project was to bring together people to create a self-sustaining performance group that would continue after the life of the project. Everyone who joined committed to supporting one another—sharing skills, leading sections of rehearsals, and taking ownership of the group’s creative direction

Ynglŷn â'r Prosiect
Mewn partneriaeth â Gwasanaethau Allgymorth Ty Canna a dan nawdd Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol ac dan arweiniad y cerddor a'r tiwtor cerddoriaeth profiadol Jack Egglestone, cyfunodd y prosiect weithdai dan arweiniad, amser stiwdio, a chyfleoedd perfformio byw. Gweithiodd y cyfranogwyr ar y cyd i:
Dysgu ac ymarfer deunydd
Ysgrifennu a threfnu caneuon newydd
Recordio eu cerddoriaeth mewn lleoliad stiwdio proffesiynol
Ochr yn ochr â'r sesiynau grŵp, cynigiodd y prosiect hefyd gefnogaeth un-i-un gan roi lle i un o'r cyfranogwyr ysgrifennu a recordio cerddoriaeth a oedd yn adlewyrchu eu taith a'u profiadau personol
Perchnogaeth a Chydweithio
Nod y prosiect oedd dod â phobl ynghyd i greu grŵp perfformio hunangynhaliol a fyddai'n parhau ar ôl oes y prosiect. Ymrwymodd pawb a ymunodd i gefnogi ei gilydd—rhannu sgiliau, arwain adrannau o ymarferion, a chymryd perchnogaeth o gyfeiriad creadigol y grŵp.

The Outcome
The project culminated in a recording day at Musicbox Studios in Cardiff and their first live performance at Ty Canna, where participants showcased the material they had created together.
Feedback and reflection were gathered throughout—at the start, midpoint, and end of the project—to ensure the group’s development and to explore the potential for a sustainable, ongoing music collective.
Resonance celebrates creativity, collaboration, and lived experience — proving the power of music to connect, support, and inspire

Y Canlyniad
Arweiniodd y prosiect at ddiwrnod recordio yn Stiwdios Musicbox yng Nghaerdydd a'u perfformiad byw cyntaf yn Ty Canna, lle dangosodd y cyfranogwyr y deunydd yr oeddent wedi'i greu gyda'i gilydd.
Casglwyd adborth a myfyrdod drwy gydol y prosiect—ar ddechrau, yng nghanol ac ar ddiwedd y prosiect—i sicrhau datblygiad y grŵp ac i archwilio'r potensial ar gyfer cydweithfa gerddoriaeth gynaliadwy a pharhaus.
Mae Resonance yn dathlu creadigrwydd, cydweithio a phrofiad byw — gan brofi pŵer cerddoriaeth i gysylltu, cefnogi ac ysbrydoli….

Community Music in Mental Health Settings
As part of the The Resonace project, we ran our established Community Music in Mental Health Settings training course for community musicians looking to develop their practice in mental health contexts. The group included workshop leaders as well as musicians with lived or professional experience of mental health.
With the guidance of Trainer, Sarah Harman, we explored how to create and adapt music-making activities, build confidence in supporting vulnerable people, and understand the boundaries of the community musician’s role.
The course also focused on group leadership and facilitation, encouraging participation, planning with flexibility, and communicating with partner organisations. Reflection and feedback were woven throughout, giving musicians a chance to strengthen their skills and consider their next steps.

Cerddoriaeth Gymunedol mewn Lleoliadau Iechyd Meddwl
Fel rhan o brosiect The Resonace, fe wnaethom gynnal ein cwrs hyfforddi Cerddoriaeth Gymunedol mewn Lleoliadau Iechyd Meddwl sefydledig ar gyfer cerddorion cymunedol a oedd yn awyddus i ddatblygu eu harfer mewn cyd-destunau iechyd meddwl. Roedd y grŵp yn cynnwys arweinwyr gweithdai yn ogystal â cherddorion â phrofiad byw neu broffesiynol o iechyd meddwl.
Gyda chanllawiau'r Hyfforddwr, Sarah Harman, fe wnaethom archwilio sut i greu ac addasu gweithgareddau gwneud cerddoriaeth, meithrin hyder wrth gefnogi pobl agored i niwed, a deall ffiniau rôl y cerddor cymunedol.
Canolbwyntiodd y cwrs hefyd ar arweinyddiaeth a hwyluso grŵp, annog cyfranogiad, cynllunio gyda hyblygrwydd, a chyfathrebu â sefydliadau partner. Roedd myfyrio ac adborth wedi'u plethu drwyddo draw, gan roi cyfle i gerddorion gryfhau eu sgiliau ac ystyried eu camau nesaf.

Weekly Music Workshops
Through a long-standing relationship with Cardiff Council’s Mental Health Outreach programme Ty Canna, we were able to deliver weekly music making session for people with little or no previous music making experience along with more accomplished instrument players and singers. For many, the music workshops have become a highlight of the week – a place to unwind, feel uplifted, and share in something creative together. What begins as an opportunity to sing or play often grows into much more: a chance to connect with others, make new friends, and feel part of a supportive community. People describe how the sessions bring a sense of calm and ease, helping them let go of stress and focus on the enjoyment of the moment. Over time, confidence builds, and participants feel valued not just for their music but for the role they play in the group. The workshops have also sparked fond memories through familiar songs, while opening doors to new experiences and friendships. With the gentle guidance of the tutors and the encouragement of fellow members, the sessions continue to offer purpose, joy, and a reminder of the power of music to bring people together.

Gweithdai Cerddoriaeth Wythnosol
Trwy berthynas hirhoedlog â rhaglen Allgymorth Iechyd Meddwl Cyngor Caerdydd, Tŷ Canna, roeddem yn gallu cynnal sesiwn gwneud cerddoriaeth wythnosol i bobl sydd â phrofiad bach neu ddim profiad blaenorol o wneud cerddoriaeth ynghyd â chwaraewyr offerynnau a chantorion mwy medrus. I lawer, mae'r gweithdai cerddoriaeth wedi dod yn uchafbwynt yr wythnos - lle i ymlacio, teimlo'n llawen, a rhannu rhywbeth creadigol gyda'n gilydd. Mae'r hyn sy'n dechrau fel cyfle i ganu neu chwarae yn aml yn tyfu i fod yn llawer mwy: cyfle i gysylltu ag eraill, gwneud ffrindiau newydd, a theimlo'n rhan o gymuned gefnogol. Mae pobl yn disgrifio sut mae'r sesiynau'n dod â theimlad o dawelwch a rhwyddineb, gan eu helpu i ollwng gafael ar straen a chanolbwyntio ar fwynhau'r foment. Dros amser, mae hyder yn meithrin, ac mae cyfranogwyr yn teimlo eu bod yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi nid yn unig am eu cerddoriaeth ond am y rôl maen nhw'n ei chwarae yn y grŵp. Mae'r gweithdai hefyd wedi sbarduno atgofion melys trwy ganeuon cyfarwydd, wrth agor drysau i brofiadau a chyfeillgarwch newydd. Gyda chanllawiau ysgafn y tiwtoriaid ac anogaeth cyd-aelodau, mae'r sesiynau'n parhau i gynnig pwrpas, llawenydd, ac atgof o bŵer cerddoriaeth i ddod â phobl at ei gilydd.
