Refugee Week 2023 | Ffordd Sain in Bannau Brycheiniog with Community Music Wales
As you might’ve already noticed, this week is Refugee Week 2023, the world's largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience and creativity of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Everyone is invited to join in, no matter how much time they have or where they are in the world and we're proud to be taking part ourselves at Community Music Wales by looking back over some of our previous work with refugees and refugee organisations.
As part of our work on the Ffordd Sain Project earlier this year, we had the pleasure of teaming up with Oasis Cardiff on a sunny but chilly April morning, to give a group of refugees and asylum seekers the opportunity to explore and experience a side of Wales seldom seen.
Setting off from the Oasis Centre in Cardiff for a day in the Bannau Brycheiniog, the trip sought to encourage those who took part to reflect on what it meant to live in Wales and gave them the chance to contrast the bustle of a busy city with the rolling calm of the countryside. Through music, photography, video and workshops, participants played and recorded new music inspired by their day outside the city with tutors Laura Bradshaw and Neil White which you can watch below.
